All of these projects have taught me so many skills, whether it is how to light something up, how to manipulate foam, or how to make paint look like a neon sign, every project has been important to my development as a creator and to becoming a master of the arts.
Discover my Remarkable Selection of props
Making props has been the highlight of my experiences with theatre. I have learned so many valuable skills such as, getting out of my comfort zone, how to push myself to try new things and how to not give up on the first try. During each of the projects I learned critical thinking and valuable building skills.
While making a puppet stand for Shrek the musical, I learned how to make an A frame (with much trial and error), and how to make metal objects appear to not be too shiny on stage
While making the giant head I learned how to use paper mache and expanding foam to create a desired form
With my simple wand, I learned to work efficiently and quickly, because we had a 30 minute time limit to sculpt and paint our wands
For Amanda Thropp I learned how to secure down a wig strong enough to be whipped around every night without falling off, and also how to shape and stuff pantyhose to look like a human
The helmet is apart of a personal costume where I learned how to manipulate foam to be a desired shape with heating techniques, and how to recreate an already existing piece
Visualize my Remarkable Selection of Costume work
Working on costumes has taught me communication skills, and also how to whip stich in an emergency. Sewing and costuming has taught me many skills such as being able to be precise, quick, and overall how to make things look coherent.
I learned how to secure fake legs to the knee and to a hip. We went though many trials trying to secure it but I learned to persevere and to be open to new ideas
For my personal costume, I learned how to edit a pattern to be like what I want it to be, how to mold and sculpt thin foam, and how to make a helmet
My handmade prom dress, started off with a simple base I ordered online, and then I embellished with lace, added a handmade tulle petticoat underneath, added blue buttons to the top neck fabric, and how to add hidden pockets
Sewing hundreds of little pieces of fabric onto cloaks, helped to teach me precision, how to make things look different but still uniform, and how to manage my resources
Experience the Incredible Edible Art Pieces
I know cakes aren’t props, but in the process of making these cakes I have learned the skills of patience, precision, and creativity! Oh, and how to make delicious confectionaries.
While making the Stormfly cake I learned how to make chocolate spikes, and how to make a 3D object out of 2D chocolate slabs
While making the Book Stack cake I learned how to make something look semi-realistic while still maintaining a cartoon like look to it.
The Mario cake taught me how to recreate a design, and still make it my own
Working with chocolate details for the Mario cake
Making the Pacman cake I learned to not be afraid to experiment with new things, such as flavors, it was a banana and chocolate chip cake, which I have never made before let alone heard of until we decided to make it
The Totoro cake was my first cake working with Homemade fondant, it taught me patience and simple sculpting techniques
Video Making and Producing
Uknighted is a video editing and production class at Lone Peak High School that allows students to direct, film, edit, and produce their own works. I have found my class, Uknighted, to be an incredibly enriching experience. Throughout the semester, I delved into various subjects that broadened my perspective and ignited my curiosity.
The engaging discussions and thought-provoking assignments challenged me to think critically and collaborate with my classmates. I particularly appreciated the passionate teaching style, which made the content come alive and sparked my enthusiasm for learning. By the end of the course, I felt more knowledgeable and inspired, grateful for the opportunity to grow both academically and personally. I made this video recapping the events of Lone Peaks “Preference” dance. I learned new techniques on how to make things coherent and also match up editing to the music.
